Tembec Generating Station (8.0 MW) - Smooth Rock Falls: Mattagami River

Print

Tembec Generating Station is a two-unit hydroelectric station located on the Mattagami River, situated approximately 100 km north of Timmins, in Smooth Rock Falls. The power station was originally commissioned in 1917 by the Mattagami Paper Company, and was eventually sold to Tembec in 1995. The turbine and generators were overhauled in 1965, and the generators were rewound in 1972. In 2009, Tembec began supplying power to the grid. The station has an installed capacity of 8.0 MW at a head of 45 feet.

Tembec is a run-of-river hydro station. The operating range of water levels in the head pond is between 228.77 and 228.89 metres. The upstream dam facility has a minimum flow of 15 CMS. The dam has 19 spillway bays. Bays 1 to 15 are serviced by a mobile log lifting gantry on rails. Bay 16 has a steel vertical lift gate with a dedicated electric hoist.

Tembec is connected to the Hydro One 120kV H9k line.

This hydroelectric generating station generates approximately 56,000 MWh of renewable energy per year.
