Municipal Energy Conservation Officers

In November 2007, Ontario’s first Chief Energy Conservation Officer, Peter Love, recommended the appointment of Municipal Energy Conservation Officers (MECOs) in Ontario’s communities to support the adoption of a “culture of conservation” in the province.

Since then, the Ontario Power Authority has continued to cultivate an energy conservation community of practice consisting of local representatives. While this working group includes many members who have not been specifically designated as “MECOs” (but who are active contributors to encouraging energy conservation), there are municipalities across the province that have made formal designations as a means of signalling the importance that saving energy has to their communities. This is a list of officially appointed MECOs:
