Who we are and what we do

The Ontario Power Authority (OPA) was formed in 2005 with a mandate to ensure a reliable, sustainable, long-term supply of electricity for the province. We do this by:

• leading and coordinating electricity conservation initiatives

• ensuring investment in needed electricity supply resources

• preparing a comprehensive, long-term power system plan.

The OPA does not generate electricity or own electricity generating facilities, nor does it own, construct or maintain distribution or transmission lines.

The OPA would be pleased to assist you with your information needs on a range of topics including:

• long term electricity system planning

• the Feed-in Tariff Program

• electricity generation procurements

• OPA conservation programs and the saveONenergy website.
